A decade snapshot across both sex groups
This collection uses the saved SSA 2020–2025 table, not a live annual chart. Only names present in both the snapshot and our catalog are eligible. We compare registration counts across the two recorded sex groups, rather than interleaving their separate ranks.
When a spelling appears in both groups, we use its higher-count row once. We do not add the rows together: the snapshot contains only the top 200 names in each group and is not a complete record of every spelling’s usage across sexes. The list stops at 36 names; catalog position breaks equal-count ties without acting as another popularity measure.
Use familiarity as a starting point
US birth registrations describe use of the original given-name spellings. They do not rank the Chinese candidates, measure search demand, or establish which name will suit a particular child. The names can have origins in many languages even though this selection is based on US records.
Compare the sound-based and meaning-based candidates separately, then open a guide for the balanced option, pronunciation, and writing tools. If you are choosing a name for daily use, consider its complete sound and associations with a surname and ask a fluent speaker to review your shortlist.
Questions about this collection
Are these the most popular Chinese baby names?
No. The order reflects US registrations of the original spellings in the saved SSA period. It says nothing about how often the suggested Chinese names are used in Chinese-speaking communities or searched online.
Why can the displayed ranks differ from the list order?
Each displayed SSA rank belongs to one recorded sex group. This collection instead compares registration counts across both groups, taking the higher-count row when a spelling appears twice. The displayed count and rank come from that selected row.
Is this the latest annual US ranking?
No. It uses our saved 2020–2025 decade snapshot, limited to names covered by the catalog. A partial decade can change as more birth years are published; this page does not automatically fetch new SSA releases.
About the selection
Usage figures come from the SSA’s 2020–2025 table, checked on 2026-10-15. They describe US registrations by recorded sex, not search volume or Chinese naming trends. The partial decade can change when more years are published.
The 36 highest-count catalog names in the snapshot are shown. Each spelling uses its higher-count sex row once, without summing sexes; catalog position breaks ties. Editorial additions do not bypass the limit.
